Christopher was born in 1776 to parents John and Rachel Green. He was baptised on 1st September at Saint John the Baptist in Halifax. His father had previously been a wiredrawer, but at the time of Christophers baptism he was an inn keeper. Christopher married Mary Horner on 15 December 1800. Both the bride and the groom were 24 when they married, and Christopher was working as a butcher. The witnesses to the marriage were John Spencer and William Schofield, who was likely a relative of Christopher as his mother’s maiden name was Schofield.
