Central Library and Archives is built onto the remains of Square Church. Approximately 1400 people were buried in the graveyard, and during the building of the library 217 bodies were exhumed.

During 2023 and 2024 Calderdale Libraries and West Yorkshire Archive Service worked with a team of volunteers to research some of the people who were buried in the area around the library.

We held several research skills workshops, showing people how to effectively use library and archive resources. Participants then chose a person or family to research.
